I'm having the same issue. My MacBook sees the reader but won't read the card.

I plugged in a different reader, SCR3310, and it reads my card fine. Thursby seems to be blaming Apple OS X Yosemite. Hopefully Apple fixes this soon since this small fold up reader is ideal for my MacBook.

A co-worker has the SCR3500 (not A) and it seems fine. Will try that one out later to see if it behaves differently. If the issue was with the SCR3500A, i finally located an updated driver that made everything work.
I'm now able to successfully read my CAC. I thought I had already loaded the newest driver but turns out, after searching several blogs, that there was an even newer one. The vendor site wasn't the easiest to navigate.
